What to wear during an interview

Most employers believe that people who look as if they care about themselves are more likely to care about their job. Your goal should be to come across in the best possible light – professional in the way you dress, in your gestures, facial expressions and in your communication. The Dutch are formal and stylish and manage to combine these aspects with a smart-casual work dress code. For corporate clients like banks or government subsidiaries, you need to adopt a more formal style.

Men: A formal shirt, neat pants and neat shoes are sufficient. No tie needed.

For women, the same: Corporate office wear like suits, dresses, neat pants and shirts, not too casual. In the winter, it is totally acceptable to wear thick woollen scarfs and hats, but please take it off during the discussion. Taking off your jacket in an office is acceptable. When leaving the office, put your jacket back on. Coats are normally taken at reception and returned when you leave.

Do your research
